Migration to Drupal & PIM integration

Initial situation: A system at its limits

The Catnic website was based on an outdated version of Typo3. The product catalogue, which had grown over the years, was particularly problematic as it had become confusing and required a great deal of effort to maintain.
The central challenge: Update or new start?

Catnic GmbH is part of the global Tata Steel AG, headquartered in Wales. The company specialises in the manufacture of high-grade building components. The high level of quality of the standard products applies equally to special articles which we manufacture ourselves in modern plants as also for the delivery service. Around 35 employees develop and distribute high-quality products for drywall construction, plastering and facades.

Requirements & decision criteria

The following factors were decisive for Catnic:

  • Easy maintenance and updates without major service costs
  • Multilingual content at the touch of a button
  • Seamless integration of the PIM system
  • Hosting with automatic maintenance – implemented with Pantheon, which reliably handles security and system updates

Our solution:

Migration to Drupal & integration of kameon PIM

Together with Catnic, we decided on a complete migration to Drupal. This laid the foundation for a modern, flexible website.

At the heart of the system is the integration of the kameon PIM system: product information is maintained centrally and automatically transferred to the website via an interface – including images, data and control over which content should go online.

The result is a scalable solution that offers Catnic maximum control and maximum efficiency.

“As a long-standing customer, I was sceptical at first. But the smooth transition to Drupal and Pantheon won me over: the website is faster, more reliable and easier to manage. The professional service exceeded my expectations.”

Implementation: Hand in hand towards success

A project team worked in parallel:

  • Drupal developers: Building the new website
  • PIM specialist: Adapting the interface to the Catnic product structure
  • Marketing team: Content maintenance and ongoing support

Close coordination ensured that interfaces, data flows and workflows were perfectly aligned.

Technologies used

  • Drupal (PHP) as a flexible CMS
  • kameon PIM system as the central data source (C#)
  • Pantheon as the hosting platform with automated updates
  • kameon Adam-and-Eve framework for modular, fast development

Outlook: The foundation is in place – and it is future-proof.

New products are maintained directly in the PIM and published automatically. The website is continuously updated with news, contact details and images.
